About Us

Welcome to the Primary Care Research Hub, the dedicated Research and Training Academy of Danes Camp Medical Centre, based in Northampton.

We are proud to be one of Northamptonshire’s leading centres for research, education, and training in general practice. Our mission is to make research an integral part of everyday clinical care, improving health outcomes, advancing patient care, and contributing to the development of new treatments, therapies, and innovations in primary care.

Our research serves not only Danes Camp Medical Centre, but also its partner practices and wider network, enabling a broader impact across local communities.

By embedding research into routine practice, we aim to shape the future of healthcare from the front line of community care. NHS website details can be found on this link: Danes Camp Medical Centre - Rowtree Road, East Hunsbury, Northampton, NN4 0NY

Chronic kidney disease in type 2 diabetes in UK primary care: Testing
frequency, coding accuracy and clinical inertia (A. Zafar, C. Scarlata, N.
Jaleel 2026).

The study examined how well UK GP practices test for, diagnose, and record chronic
kidney disease (CKD) in people with Type 2 diabetes. The study found that CKD is
frequently under-tested and under-recorded in people with Type 2 diabetes. Rural
practices had lower testing rates and more delays in diagnosis than urban practices.
Younger patients and those with fewer abnormal kidney test results were the most
likely to remain uncoded. These findings suggest that improving CKD testing, coding,
and adherence to guidelines could support earlier diagnosis and better patient
outcomes.
